Grading:

Multimedia & Web Development is graded on the standard grading scale:

90%  - 100 %        A
80%  -    89%        B
70%  -    79%        C
60%  -    69%        D
00%  -    59%        F

Note that beginning with the class of 2012 a 2.0 GPA will be required by the end of the first semester of a student’s senior year in order to participate in the graduation ceremony.

Grade:

Your grade will be based on projects and exams (both hands on and written). Some of the projects will require afterschool lab work or work outside the classroom such as recording school activities, creating school web pages and associated media, recording narration and editing media.

It is critical that you complete your projects on time, as future projects will build on the material from previous projects.  If you are absent it is your responsibility to make up any missed assignments.  Cheating on projects will result in an “F” grade for all individuals involved.

The school network and accounts are the responsibility of the district ITS department.  Any questions or concerns, regarding passwords, missing documents, student accounts or network issues should be directed to the ITS department.  Site staff does not have the authority or network access to resolve these issues.

Attendance / Participation:

Due to the nature of this course, regular attendance is critical.  It is your responsibility to find out what work was missed due to absences and to complete your assignments.  Each assignment has a due date and a deadline.  The due date is the date that you should be completed, the deadline is the date when I will back up the assignment and you may no longer work on it for credit.  If you are absent, you will have a day or two before the deadline to complete your assignment, but it is your responsibility to do so.  Although there will be ample opportunities to make up occasional absences, if you are frequently absent it will become difficult for you to make up your work.  If you plan on going on a vacation during the school year, or are frequently absent (for ANY reason), you should not take this class as it is nearly guaranteed that you will fail.

The lab is open during scheduled times both before and after school.  In addition your accounts can be accessed from the library and career center computers.

Cell Phones / Electronic Devices

As per school rules, if you have an electronic device out (cell phones, video games, MP3 players, CD Players, etc.) it will be taken away and given to an administrator.

REALLY – I will take your cell phone if I see it out!  It will be given to the Administration as per SPHS policy.  No warnings, etc.  Do not check the time, check your messages, anything –If I see the phone, it WILL be taken away!

Tardy Policy

If you are not inside the classroom when the bell rings you will be marked tardy.  The school’s tardy policy will be enforced.  This is in addition to your participation grade and making up the time as outlined above will restore your grade but not erase the tardy.

Computer Lab Rules

The computers in room 207 are used for a variety of purposes and classes.  To assure maximum availability and network functionality for all SPHS students and staff, the following rules will be enforced.  Please note that per the SPHS Technology Use Agreement, all activates on the SPHS computer system may be monitored at any time by the teacher or technology staff.  This includes Internet / Network activity, personal accounts and e-mail.

Violating class or school policies will result in verbal warnings, detentions, parent contact / behavior contract and/or removal from class with an “F” grade.  These rules do not supersede the SPHS Computer Use Agreement and violation of the SPHS Computer Use Agreement will immediately result in your computer / network privileges being revoked school wide.  As you will not be able to use the computers, this will result in an automatic “F” in the class.

  • No Food or Drink allowed in lab.
  • No cell phones or electronic devices – cell phones will be taken and given to administration for pickup.
  • No unauthorized programs are to be installed on the computers.
  • No games are to be played on computers without permission.
  • No Chat Programs / Web Sites (including sites such as games and radio stations that have chat included).

  • Unauthorized programs, MP3s, and multimedia files may not be stored in your personal account.  This includes files/programs downloaded from the Internet, as well as any other sources.  Authorization for storing such programs can only come from the system administrators (Mr. Sillars or Technology Department Personnel).  Note – YOU are responsible for the security of your account.  If you give someone your password and they use it to violate class rules or the SPHS Technology Policy, YOU will be held responsible.
  • No changes to the Registry, Bios or any Windows/program setting.
  • Entry into prohibited Internet sites, as per the Internet Use Agreement, will result in your computer privileges being revoked and a referral to SPHS administration.  This also includes unsuccessful entry into prohibited Internet sites.
  • Attempting to circumvent computer and/or network security, including the web filter, (successfully or unsuccessfully) in any way will result in removal from the class with an “F” grade.

Equipment

Any vandalism to the computers, peripherals, or other lab equipment will be grounds for immediate removal from the class with an “F” grade and loss of all computer privileges on campus. You and/or your parents will be charged for any damages. In addition to physical vandalism, you will be removed from class for unauthorized network access, loading unauthorized programs into the computer or network, damaging the operating system or software, activities that degrade network performance, creation or installation of programs such as viruses, scripts, trojans, etc., or any other action that damages the performance of the school network.

Saving your Work: Thumb Drives (VERY IMPORTANT!)

Last year the school severs and student accounts had many problems and many students lost their work.  It is highly recommended that you use a thumb drive or other personal back-up device to save your work in addition to your school account.  If you work disappears from your account, you will still be responsible for it (you will need to redo missing work).
